Mosaic Knitting
Saturday morning (9 a.m. - noon)

Mosaic knitting is a form of slipped-stitch knitting – which creates complicated two-color designs while only using one color per row. Not all slipped-stitch knitting is Mosaic knitting, however - it follows certain rules. We’ll learn the tricks and rules to Mosaic knitting and how to read Mosaic knitting charts while knitting a washcloth/trivet sampler.

Supplies:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors (cotton yarn is best if you wish to use your finished project as a dishcloth, wool is best for trivet use). Pick a white or cream for one color and a dark color for your second color for a foolproof combination.
Working needles in size appropriate to yarn (size 7 or 8 will work for most knitters).

Homework: none

Homework:
Using worsted-weight yarn (smooth, solid, light-colored yarn for ease of seeing our stitches) and appropriate size needles, cast on 18 sts.
Work in 2x2 ribbing for 1.5". Then work 1" in St st (knit RS rows and purl WS rows), ending with a WS row.
Next Row (RS): Knit 9 sts with your original color, then cut yarn leaving a tail and join a contrasting color (leaving a tail) and knit 9 sts.
Work 3 more rows in st st with your contrasting color, ending with a WS row. Cut yarn. leaving a tail. Rejoin original color (leaving a tail) and work 1" in st st.
Then work 1.5" in garter (knit every row.)
Then work 1.5" in Seed st (RS: *K1, p1; rep from * to end. WS: *P1, k1; rep from * to end.)
BO all sts. Leave all tails unwoven.
